Chennai Champions clinch PCL

Thundering knocks from openers Saurabh Tiwari (71 runs off 32 balls) and Rajesh Patha (55 no runs off 39 balls) enabled Chennai Champions to record a thumping nine-wicket win over Haryana Bulls in the final to claim the Premier Cricket League at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium,Sector 3,Panchkula.

On winning the toss,Chennai Champions opted to field first. In reply to which,Haryana Bulls made a challenging total of 170 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. It was Dharminder Phagna who topscored with a knock of 63 runs. Apart from him,Pankaj Joshi (60) and Gurinder Saini (33) made other notebale contributions. From the bowling side,Faiz Mohammed scalped two wickets. The fact it was the championship final,the total of 170 runs would have been always difficult to chase. But it happened the other way around,as the Chennai team achieved the target losing just one wicket in the 18th over. All credit should go to Saurabh Tiwari who scored ruthless knock of 77 runs in mere 32 balls. He along with Rajesh Patha made the chase look easy. Tiwari hit five sixes in his innings. The winning team carried home the prize-money worth Rs one crore while the Haryana team got Rs 50 lakh. Saurabh was declared man of the match. Gurinder Saini was awarded man of the series award.
