Chandigarh Police proposes to install automatic speed trackers; field survey in progress

A field survey in this regard is in progress and surveyors are identifying the locations where these trackers could be installed.

TO DEAL with the problem of speeding, the UT traffic police has mooted a plan to install automatic speed trackers on busy roads.

A field survey in this regard is in progress and surveyors are identifying the locations where these trackers could be installed. With the installation of these trackers, the police could issue challans to the violators.

The police officials familiar with the development told Chandigarh Newsline that speed trackers had been made part of the proposal of installation of 660 CCTV cameras in various parts of the city.

The trackers will be installed on Chandigarh-Zirakpur road where the problem of speeding is more. Apart from this, these trackers will also be installed on some bordering and inner roads of the city but the exact location will only be decided after the spot survey is done.

SSP (traffic and security) Maneesh Chaudhary said that they mooted the plan for the installation of the CCTV cameras but later realised the need for installing automatic speed trackers. The company had started the spot survey and they felt that around 20 speed trackers would be required to cover the city. “It is the need of the hour. We want the trackers to be installed so that we could take on the violators. With the installation of these trackers, it would be easy to issue challans,” added the SSP. He said the automatic number plate recognition CCTV cameras would be installed at a distance of around 500 metres and these cameras would be connected with the trackers which would record the speed of the vehicles.
