Playing to their potential,Chandigarh recorded a seven-wicket outright win over Amritsar to collect six points in a match played during the ongoing Punjab Inter- District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield at the GMSSS,Sector 26,Chandigarh on Tuesday. Amritsar were bowled out for 248 runs,after they resumed at overnight score of 177 runs for the loss of four wickets. Chandigarh fast bowlers VRV Singh and Jaskaran Singh made early in roads in to the Amritsar batting line-up. Both VRV Singh (3 for 38) and Jaskaran Singh (3 for 34) bowled well to put Amritsar batsmen on the backfoot. Needing 145 runs for an outright win Chandigarh opened with Manan Vohra and skipper Vishwas Bhalla. The duo started on a confident note and put on 68 runs in 15.1 overs. Manan was removed by Vinay Chaudhary for a well-made knock of 41 runs.

After his dismissal Chandigarh lost two more wickets in the form of Uday Kaul (2) and Amit Prashar (16) to off-spinner Charanjit Singh. Thereafter,Vishwas Bhalla (59 no) and Jaskaran Sohi (16 no) romped Chandigarh home. Chandigarh scored 145 for the loss of three wickets in 30 overs.

Gurkirat’s ton in vain

Mohali batsman Gurkirat Mann’s knock of 145 runs went waste,as Patiala beat Mohali by 74 runs to garner six points. Mohali resuming from overnight score of 151 for 5 were given a fresh lease of life by Mayank Sidana and Gurkirat Mann who added 149 runs for the sixth-wicket. Mayank was shown the door by leggie Sarabjit Ladda for 63 runs. Gurkirat was then joined by Manpreet Gony. The duo put on 87 runs for the seven-wicket to take the team’s total to 316 for 7 in 68.5 overs. Carrying forward his good form,Patiala left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh then removed both Gurkirat and Manpreet to seal the fate in his team’s favour. Mohali’s resistance ended at 338 in 79.3 overs. Rajwinder Singh (6 for 134) and Sarabjit Ladda (3 for 98) were the main wicket takers for Patiala.

Jalandhar grab Ist innings lead

Resuming at 118 for 2 in 40 overs,Jalandhar were bowled out for 341 runs in 108 overs and in the process took a crucial nine runs first innings lead against Ludhiana at the PAU ground in Ludhiana. At one stage Jalandhar were 290 for 9 in 92 overs,still short of 42 runs short on the first innings but then led by a 51-runs partnership for the ten-wicket saw them go past the Ludhiana’s total. Earlier skipper Taruwar Kohli and Love Kumar added 70 runs for the third-wicket. Taruwar was sent packing on 115 runs by Amritpal Singh. Playing in the second innings,Ludhiana were 57 for 2 in 22 overs at close of third day’s play.
