Keeping their record intact,Chandigarh Football Academy registered another convincing 5-1 win over Mahilpur Football Academy, thanks to a brace from Rajinder, and booked their place in the last four of the 7th Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament (U-17 Boys) being held at Sector 17 Football Stadium on Saturday.

CFA,last year’s winner, exhibited another superb show and proved why they are still the favourites to win this year’s title also. Gagandeep account the account for CFA in the 15th minute of the match through a solo effort. CFA players were quick in passing and stuck to shorter ones to avoid any chances of dispossession. The Punjab team,on the other hand, employed long passes and tried to score from a distance.

However, their tactics did not work and it was CFA who again scored through Rajinder in the 34th minute as he headed the ball off a superb cross from KC Lal from the left flank. Rajinder,on a purple patch, once again surged into opposition team’s territory and put the team up by 3-0.

Even after the breather, there was no respite for Mahilpur Academy as Amandeep scored the fourth goal for CFA in the 60th minute of play. However,Rajbir was able to pull back one for Mahilpur in the 84th minute of the match. Two minutes after, midfielder Sumit Passi rounded off the tally with a blistering shot to give an emphatic win for CFA.

In another match of the day,Rurka Kalan Football Academy outclassed New Public School,Sector 18,by a margin of 3 – 0 to enter the semis. Both the teams, equally balanced, made some brilliant moves in the early stages of the play. However, midfielder Amritpal drew the first blood when he put Rurka Kalan in lead in the 24th minute of play. The goal changed NPS tactics and they put more stress on defence. Thereafter, play was confined to mid-field and the score remained 1-0 till the breather.

On the resumption of play, both the teams employed defensive approach and nothing significant happened till the dying minutes of the match. However, some late surge from Rurka Kalan saw the team score two thrilling goals in a span of two minutes. Papai scored the second and third goal for the Rurka Kalan team in the 84th and 86th minute of the play.
