Centre not serious about death row issue: Sukhbir

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Monday accused the Union government of not properly taking the issue of death row faced by 17 Indians in UAE.

He was talking to the mediapersons before the commencement of the World Kabbadi Cup match in Jalandhar.

“It is the responsibility of the Centre to take up the matter strongly and explore all legal options,” said Sukhbir.

He also appealed to both the Prime Minister and President of India to personally intervene in the matter.

On a query on what the state government was doing in this matter,Sukhbir said the state cannot take up the issue with the UAE Government and only the Centre can take any action.

The Punjab Deputy CM said a comprehensive sports policy would be announced so there was no shortage of funds in the state. He said a draft of the policy had been already prepared. He said a kabbadi league,on the pattern of the Indian Premier League would be formed to revive the game in the country.
