This April,Kurukshetra University will play host to the Media International Film Festival Starting April 3,the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology of Kurukshetra University,Kurukshetra,will be holding the first-of-its-kind Media International Film Festival. After the success of the Haryana International Film Festival held at the DAV College for Girls,Yamunanagar, last October,Kurukshetra University will play host to MIFF. Organised for academicians across India,the festival will have noted personalities from the film and entertainment industry,editors and senior journalists from prominent print and electronic media of international and national repute,as active participants. According to the festival chairman,professor Rajbir Singh,the objective of the festival is to showcase world-class cinema to provoke discussions and deliberations among university students,especially the media students. The festival will also hold a short film competition for the media students of the universities of north India and a seminar to mark the centenary of Indian Cinema and interface programmes with cinema celebrities and media personalities. To be held from April 3 to 7 at RK Sadan,Kurukshetra University,MIFF will celebrate everything in cinema - be it art,literature,law,music or dance. It will also have discussions on films on education,media,NRIs and cinema in Haryana. Day one will open with the screening of the cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron,followed by a discussion with its director,Kundan Shah. While award-winning actress Seema Biswas will screen her film Un Hazaron Ke Naam; as a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary,she will also stage a play enacted and directed by her,titled Strir Patra. The following days will also be filled with discussions and screenings,including short films like Energy Enigma Exile Hussain 95,Faces,based on noted artist Himmat Shah,a slideshow of India through ace photographer Raghu Rais lens,FTII film Wo Subah Kidhar Nikal Gayi,film Sanchari on the work of noted artiste and CBFC Chairperson Leela Samson,professor Suresh Sharmas film on much-acclaimed musician Ravi,Udyan Prasads My Son The Fanatic and Brother in Trouble,I am Kalam by Nila Madhab Panda,Ashwini Chaudharys Laado and Dhoop,Leslee Udwins East is East and West is West and Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhans film Lahore. On April 7 the red carpet will be rolled for the premiere of Das Capital by Yashpal Sharma. The screenings will be complimented with interactions with filmmakers and personalities like Om Puri,National Film Development Corporations Nina Lath Gupta and Meghna Malik.
