‘Can’t get away, amount must be recovered from them,’ says Jahan

BSP councillor Jannat Jahan condemned the attempt to bury the issue and demanded a thorough probe.

“The councillors tried to save their skin today, they can’t get away after wasting Rs 28 lakh. The amount must be recovered from them for their visit to Tirupati and Havelock island, which were not part of the sanction given by the administrator,” she said.

Many BJP leaders, however, refused to comment, although Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of zero tolerance for corruption and says “na khaoonga, na khane doonga’’.

Among them were former MPs Satya Pal Jain and Harmohan Dhawan.

City BJP president Sanjay Tandon said that his party was open to any inquiry not only in this study tour, but into the selection procedure adopted for all previous study tours.

From the Congress, former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal said that he did not like to comment on a corporation matter.
B B Bahl, president of the Chandigarh Congress, said, “Till the time I study the matter, I can’t comment.”

However, Mayor H C Kalyan said that he stood by his demand for an inquiry into the selection of the travel agency, which he had made in a letter to the Adviser to the Administrator on Monday.
