Once again,a breach has been reported in the temporary bridge of Ladhuka Minor in Fazilka district.

Fourth breach in Ladhuka Minor in 45 days

Ludhiana: Once again,a breach has been reported in the temporary bridge of Ladhuka Minor in Fazilka district. This has caused inconvenience to more than 40 villages who use this bridge to go to Fazilka city. The breach was reported on Tuesday evening and the Public Works Department (PWD) have begun repair works. This is the 4th breach in the canal as well as the bridge. The first breach happened in the last week of June and later in the second week of July – a 30 feet wide breach in canal was seen which inundated about 250 acres of agricultural land. Inderjit Singh,Executive Engineer PWD said,“This temporary bridge is made of mud and the work on a permanent bridge is on. Our teams are on the job and in 1-2 days traffic movement will start once again.”

CII meets Punjab MPs to set growth agenda

Chandigarh: With an objective to align the vision of Punjab’s industry with the state and set an agenda for inclusive growth in Punjab,a CII delegation comprising senior industry leaders from Punjab met MPs from the state at New Delhi. Preneet Kaur,Minister of State for External Affairs stressed the need for Punjab to prepare a long term vision for the state and look at new technologies for harnessing renewable energy sources to solve the power deficit in Punjab. Partap Singh Bajwa,MP from Gurdaspur called for a bipartisan approach to benefit the state. He further suggested that the delegation of industry leaders and MPs from Punjab should meet the Prime Minister and impress upon him to announce special projects to help boost Punjab’s economy.

Regular checks of hazardous units

Chandigarh: Haryana Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shiv Charan Lal Sharma on Wednesday directed the Labour Officers to carry out inspection of Major Accidental Hazardous (MAH) units once every six months,Accidental Hazardous (AH) units once in a year and in case of Non-accidental Hazardous (NAH) units the inspection should be conducted once in every two years.

Actor Meera Chopra gets anticipatory bail

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday stayed arrest of Meera Chopra,cousin of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra,till August 24. Justice Rajesh Bindal issued notices to Haryana on an anticipatory bail filed by the Tamil actor Meera Chopra,an accused in a case of dowry death. The Gurgaon police had registered a case against Meera Chopra on charges of dowry death. Chopra is an accused in the death of Ruchi Bhuttan. The FIR was registered on July 5.

Neonatal units in all healthcare facilities

Chandigarh: The Haryana health department has decided to set up neonatal care units in various health institutions ranging from general hospital to delivery huts to provide health facilities to the newly born infants. Doctors of the department have been directed to ensure smooth functioning of these units and monitor delivery huts continuously to ensure adequate facilities to all the newly born children in these huts.

Guru conducts aerial surveys in Tarn Taran

Amritsar: Principal Secretary to CM,Darba Singh Guru on Wednesday conducted aerial surveys to assess the damage to the crops by the waters of Rohi and Defence drain in various border villages in the district and pulled up the local administration to provide immediate relief to the affected people. He was accompanied by officials from the district administration and said that the Tarn Taran DC S S Johal has been provided sufficient funds to deal with any situation and provide relief to the farmers whose crops were affected. More than two dozen villages were affected and one person died due to the breach.

HP body takes exception to CAG criticism

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Civil Audit Association on Wednesday took strong exception to an ‘unwarranted and mischievous’ criticism of the Comptroller and Auditor (CAG) of India. After tabling of the CAG reports on 2G spectrum and Adarsh Housing Society in the Parliament,amendments in the Duties and Powers of CAG Act 1971 was proposed to check corruption more effectively. Roshan Lal Thakur and Ranjender Kumar,vice-president and secretary of the Association respectively said it was shocking that the CAG has been made a target of criticism instead of devising means to check corruption and bring transparency in the utilisation of public funds by government agencies. At a meeting of the Association held on Wednesday at the Accountant General (Audit) office the Association asserted that the CAG has been doing its job as per mandate given by the constitution of India.
