chandigarh: Haryana Power Utilities have decided to supply electricity for eight hours daily to agricultural tubewell consumers during the ongoing sowing of rabi crops. Earlier,pumpsets were supplied electricity for six hours daily. A spokesman of Haryana Power Utilities said electricity would be supplied to farmers in different time slots.

2,022 students caught cheating during Haryana school board exams

chandigarh: Cases of cheating during examination were registered against 2,022 students,while seven teachers have been dismissed for dereliction of duty during the Haryana School Education Board exams,an official said. During the examinations,which concluded on Thursday,8,03,572 candidates wrote their papers at 1,681 centres.

Rs 1,216 crore spent under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Haryana

Chandigarh: A sum of Rs 1,216 crore has been spent under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Haryana as work on 355 roads aggregating 4,120 km has so far been completed,said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday. He directed various departments to take up all labour intensive works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Power engineers submit memo to Dhumal

Shimla: The Himachal Power Engineers Association has asked the state government to increase the state’s power generation capacity rapidly to make use of the immense hydel power potential and also take up thermal power generation to meet the growing energy demands of the state and the country. The state government is already executing one thermal power project in a joint venture in West Bengal. The engineers also asked for bringing in more professionalism in the state electricity board.

Rate of market fee on cotton reduced

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday announced a reduction in the rate of market fee on cotton from 2 per cent to 1.5 per cent and also the rate of Haryana Rural Development Fund (HRDF) cess on cotton from 2 per cent to 1.5 per cent. The total will now come to three per cent instead of four per cent. The Cotton Ginners Association of Haryana had represented to the state government that if the rate of market fee and HRDF cess on cotton was reduced,it would increase the revenue of the state and also stop the export of cotton from Haryana to the neighbouring states of Punjab and Rajasthan.

Best research award for HAU professor

Chandigarh: Dr Pawan Kumar,Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomy at Haryana Agricultural University has been honoured for the best research work done by him. He has been awarded Dr P S Lalitha Silver Jubilee Award and gold medal by the Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists for the best research paper entitled: “Scanning and transmission electron microscopy of nasopharyngeal tonsil sheep” published in the Indian Journal of Veterinary Anatomy-2009. The award was presented during 25th annual convocation and National symposium of the Association at Puducherry recently.
