Gurdwara poll panel files reply
Chandigarh: Seeking dismissal of a petition challenging the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee elections,the Secretary,Gurdwara Election Commission on Tuesday defended the rules notified for holding the elections. In response to a petition filed by Harbans Singh Khandola,petitioner in the case,the Secretary,Gurdwara Election Commission filed a response in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He submitted that the rules issued by the Centre are completely as per the norms and denied allegations of issuing the notification for holding the elections under any kind of pressure. The elections are slated to take place on September 18. The court,last week,had refused to stay the elections. It had issued notices to the Centre and the Gurdwara Election Commission on a petition filed by Harbans Singh. The Full Bench of the High Court comprising Justice M M Kumar,Justice Alok Singh and Justice Gurdev Singh has passed the order on a petition filed by Harbans Singh Khandola.
PCC meet to finalise Sept 2 stir at Mansa
Chandigarh: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has called a meeting of all office bearers,district presidents and MLAs on August 19 to finalise the programme of setting up a morcha on September 2 at Mansa in support of the farmers who are protesting against the acquisition of their land by the Akali-BJP government,PCC vice-president Laal Singh said.
