NRI arrested for killing wife

Police have arrested an NRI,Gurdial Singh,who fled after murdering his wife on Wednesday. Singh slit the throat of his wife Ranjit Kaur after a petty fight,and also attacked his son who came to the rescue of his mother. The incident took place in Raipur village. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

IIAS conference on ‘Character of Mind’

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS),in collaboration with the Indian Council of Philosophical Research,will organise a three-day international conference beginning March 18 on The Character of Mind here from March 18. This conference is the first such to discuss philosophical and scientific speculations into the nature and character of the mind.

3 convicted for murder of KMV principal

On Thursday,the court of Additional Sessions Judge B S Sandhu convicted Mohd Khadoon and Mohd Rehman,hailing from Bihar,and Ramandeep,a local resident,for their role in the murder of Rita Bawa,the KMV principal,three years ago. The sentence will be pronounced on Monday.

UK investors come calling to Himachal

With investors from the United Kingdom exploring new investment opportunities in the Indian agriculture,education and infrastructure sectors,Himachal Pradesh may emerge as one of the destinations for foreign investments. Leading a delegation of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) — a British government organisation — its deputy head Jane Sanders said some of the focus sectors included infrastructure,education,renewable energy,business services and investments. During an interaction with members of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Baddi,Sanders said there were many opportunities that UK traders were exploring options in the field of infrastructure in India. Dalip Sharma,Regional Director,PHD Chamber,informed the delegation that Himachal had a lot of scope for investment. Earlier,Dr Gopal Munjal,Co-Chairman,HP Committee,PHD Chamber,said Himachal had changed from a tourism state to an industrial state in the last few years.
