Panjab University on Friday decided to debar Nitin Jindal, the law student accused of sexually assaulting a British girl in Boston, from taking examinations. The recommendation was given by the inquiry committee, headed by the Dean University Instructions, formed on February 20 to look into the entire episode wherein some students had gone for a conference in Boston by allegedly forging documents.
A final year student of the University Institute of Legal Studies,Jindal is currently lodged in a jail in the US,facing criminal charges. He was one of delegates who had gone to Boston to attend the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference in February by preparing fake documents to come across as an official delegation of PU.
Sources said the university has initiated the process for his rustication.
This had also led to arch rivals Students Organisation of Panjab University and Panjab University Students Union facing off,as the delegation also included the then SOPU chief Barinder Dhillon. The campus had witnessed various protests, including hunger strike by PUSU members, alleging inaction.
