BJP cries foul over shift of Gadkari rally venue

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the decision of the UT Administration asking the party to shift the venue of its May 12 rally from the Ramlila Ground in Sector 27 to the Sector-25 rally ground.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the decision of the UT Administration asking the party to shift the venue of its May 12 rally from the Ramlila Ground in Sector 27 to the Sector-25 rally ground. Party national president Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to address the rally. This would be his first visit to the city since he took over.

The party had been granted permission to use the Ramlila Ground, but the Administration has now asked it to shift the venue to Sector 25.

Terming the decision as undemocratic, president of the BJP city unit,Sanjay Tandon, said,“We had taken all the required permissions, including police clearance, permission to put up flags in the city,as well as clearance from the fire department. It seems that other political parties were scared that our rally would be a huge success. This is why they connived with the Administration to get the permission cancelled.”

He argued that when religious functions and all kinds of exhibitions could be held at the Ramlila Ground, there was no reason why the party rally had to be shifted.

Harmohan Dhawan, who has recently joined the party, said around 15,000 workers were going to join the party on May 12. He added,“The Congress was scared of the huge crowd that would be at the function and its success. I can assure that it would be a historic event.” Party incharge of Punjab affairs Balbir Punj, general secretary Kiran Ghai and Navjot Singh Sidhu would also be present at the rally.
