Biting cold prevails in Himachal

The biting cold wave continued in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday even as the day temperature rose by a few notches in many parts due to bright sunshine which greeted the region.

The tourist resort of Manali was the coldest in non-tribal areas with mercury dipping to minus 4.6 degree Celsius.

Elsewhere,Solan recorded minus 1.5 degrees Celsius while it was minus 0.7 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar.

The state capital,Shimla,registered a low of 1.9 degrees Celsius. However,it was warmer during the day with maximum temperature rising to 14.9 degrees Celsius,six points above normal.

Keylong and Kalpa in twin tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur got no respite from intense chill with mercury staying at minimum minus 14.7 degrees Celsius and minus 5.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

Una was the hottest in the state with a high of 22.2 degrees Celsius,followed by Sundernagar at 20 degrees Celsius and Nahan 18.6 degrees Celsius.
