After BCom,the most preferred choice of students seeking admissions in the city colleges is BCA followed by BBA. The last date of submission of applications is June 30. For the total number of 240 seats for BCA in the four government city colleges,as many as 1504 application forms have been submitted so far. Similarly,for total 120 number of seats for BBA offered in the two government colleges,1058 application forms have been submitted.
Anticipating the rush for these two courses,the UT Education Department had announced the admission in all the city government colleges to be through a centralised process. The centralised admission would be conducted at Post Graduate Government College-Sector 11. The display of merit list would be done on July 4 followed by the counselling on July 5.
While BCA is offered in PGGC-11,PGGCG-11,PGGCG-42 and PGGC-46,BBA is offered in PGGC-11 and GCCBA-42. The qualification for BCA also makes it a sought after course as anybody who has passed Class XII examination in any discipline with at least 50 per cent marks and Class X examination having passed with Mathematics as one of the subjects. Also,a candidate who has passed any other examination recognised by the Syndicate is as equivalent to the Class XII examination.
Around 10,000 forms were submitted on the last day of submission for various courses at government colleges. These included BSc (Computer Science Elective),Biotech,Microbiology,Bioinformatics,MSc IT and Chemistry,various other Master courses including Arts,Commerce and Science and PGDCA. This year we have received a good response for MSc Chemistry with 264 forms submitted against 25 seats at the college. Also for BSc Computer Science,the number of applications received is 254 against 60 seats. This is among one of the sought after courses after BCA and BBA, said the Principal of Post Graduate Government College-11 Dr Shyam Sunder.
