Backward candidate challenges PCS result

The result of the recently held examination for Punjab Civil Services,Executive was challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The result of the recently held examination for Punjab Civil Services (PCS),Executive was challenged today in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Permod Kohli issued notices to Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC),Patiala and the Punjab government on a petition filed by Gurjaipal Singh,a Divisional Accounts Officer with the Office of the Executive Engineer,Public Works Department (B&R),Construction Division,Sangrur.

The petitioner, who is a candidate belonging to the backward class (BC),and whose name does not appear in the short-listed candidates of BC category, has challenged the list of short-listed candidates ,as notified by PPSC on December 31 last year.

The petitioner has taken the plea that while short-listing the candidates (who have passed the preliminary examination) for purpose of appearing in the main examination,at least 101 BC candidates who have scored more marks than the last general category candidate shortlisted for appearing in the main written examination, have been shown in the BC category (instead of the general category).

Arguing on behalf of the petitioner,Advocate H C Arora contended that as per law laid down by the Supreme Court all those BC candidates, who score more marks than the last candidate of general category, have to be treated as general category candidates, thereby giving way to the next meritorious candidates of the BC category for inclusion in the list of BC category.
