* Now,one can complete course or improve performance irrespective of age or year
If you always had this wish to complete your course,which you had left midway,or even improve upon your marks in any subject but could not do so for some reason,you have reasons to cheer.
The Syndics of Panjab University (PU) on Saturday approved the a proposal,by which,students present and former can complete a course or improve their performance at any time and at any age.
They will be allowed to do so through the University School of Open School of Open Learning (USOL),subject to fulfilment of certain conditions. According to one of these conditions,a candidate has to study the current syllabi pattern and not the one which he has already undertaken.
The other decisions taken during the meeting are as follows:
* Keeping in view the demand of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) students to give them an opportunity of golden chance,the Syndicate has extended this to the students of all departments.
A special chance to clear compartment/re-appear has been granted to all those who have exhausted their permissible chances. The examination will be held in September.
* Another significant move in favour of aspirants undertaking graduate or professional courses in PU and affiliated colleges is the exemption from the need to pass one lower examination and study for two years in Chandigarh.
Now,all students who had passed their qualifying examination (Class XII) from Chandigarh will be considered for admission under 85 per cent quota of the UT Pool. This was a recommendation made by the UT Administration to the university.
* Dean of University Instruction (DUI) Professor B S Brar was appointed as the Director-Principal of Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital till further orders.
* The Syndicate approved the Revised Estimated Deficit of Rs.25382.73 lakh for 2010-11 and Budget Estimated Deficit for Rs.22219.39 lakh for the financial year 2011-12.
* Taking a major step for the welfare of temporary employees working on daily wage or contract basis against the sanctioned or budgeted posts,the vice-chancellor has sought the approval of the Syndicate for regular appointments of those temporary employees,who have either completed 10 years or more of service prior to moving the court or have not approached the court and have completed 10 years or more of service on or before December 31,2010.
* The Syndicate approved the appointment of 39 temporary (Class B and Class C) employees working on temporary or daily wage/contract basis.
Syndicate meeting adjourned for an hour
The Syndicate meeting had to be adjourned for almost an hour when V-C Professor R C Sobti complained uneasiness. The doctor,who was immediately called in,said he was suffering from high blood pressure. Sobti lost his cool when Professor Rabindernath Sharma accused him of being a dictator and compared him with Libyan dictator Gaddafi. Sharma said this while discussing the issue of re-instating Professor Manoj Kumar to the University Business School.
