Chandigarh: UT Police on Wednesday arrested two persons who had allegedly outraged the modesty of a 25-year-old woman in a moving auto on Monday and then thrown her out of the auto. The two were arrested at a naka. The two had picked up the woman at about 6 pm on Monday,and allegedly sexually harassed her. The woman approached the police,having sustained a fracture and other injuries. The duo was booked on charges of outraging the modesty of a women.

Vineet Punia joins as varsity DPRO

Chandigarh: Vineet Punia on Wednesday joined the Panjab University (PU) as Director,Public Relations. After the retirement of Sanjiv Tewari in 2009,the varsity did not have a regular DPRO.

MC Roads Committee meets

Chandigarh: A meeting of Roads Committee of Municipal Corporation was held on Wednesday where it was decided that construction material would be provided in every division so that emergency work can be executed on time. Residents’ federation demands hospital

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Residents’ Social Welfare Federation has demanded setting up of a hospital in the southern part of the city. The members state that the existing hospitals are overcrowded.

Schools to be closed from May 23 to 31

Ambala: Deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi Wednesday issued orders that all government,private and public schools would remain closed from May 23 to 31 due to the heat wave which has swept the region. He said that orders to close the schools were made to check any untoward incident due to scorching heat.
