BJP opposes proposal to shift stray cattle
A three-member committees proposed visit to a cattle shed in Delhi to see if stray cattle in the city can be sent there has been cancelled after BJP councillors raised some questions on the proposal. The issue had dominated debates during the meeting of the General House in January. A committee of three councillors – Davesh Moudgil,Malkit Singh and H C Kalyan – was constituted to visit the cattle shed in Delhi. It has been proposed that the stray cattle be sent there. However,payment of Rs 3000 per cattle to the cattle shed for upkeep was something that did not go down well with the BJP councillors and a justification was sought.
Senior citizens body organises camp
Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association organised a Socio-Medical Camp at Government Middle School,Maloya Colony on Monday. This was the second camp in a series of such camps that are held to commemorate the memory of late P H Vaishnav,past president of the association. Specialists from Ivy Hospital,Grewal Eye Institute and Guru Nanak Multi Specialty Hospital were present.
Varsity commemorates Womens day
To commemorate International Womens Day and its silver jubilee year,the Department- cum- Centre for Womens Studies and Development,Panjab University (PU) organised a colloquium on the Nirbhaya case: Before and After. Amarjeet Kaur,secretary All India Trade Union Congress,New Delhi and former secretary National Federation of Indian Women,was the main speaker on the occasion. She said that December 16,2012 gang rape in the national capital was a wake-up call for the Indian society. She raised a question-mark on the social sensitivity of our society,on the police,on the service sector as well as the attitude of the judiciary.
Summer training school begins at UIPS
A summer training school on the theme – Innovations in Pharma Research: Stepping Stones – commenced at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS),Panjab University (PU) on Monday. As many as 15 teachers and PhD students from various colleges and universities,representing eight different states with teaching experience of five years,have been selected. Prof Anil Kumar,course coordinator highlighted the need of innovations in Pharma research.
