Around Town : Primary classes to reopen today

Following the extended summer break for pre-primary and primary classes by a week,these are now scheduled to re-open from Monday.

Chandigarh: Following the extended summer break for pre-primary and primary classes by a week,these are now scheduled to re-open from Monday. The timings will be 8 am to 2 pm. Due to the heat wave,timings for classes VI to XII were restricted from 7.30 am to 1 pm by the Chandigarh Administration,last week,and the morning assemblies were also suspended. However,from Monday,classes will be held as per the usual schedule.

GMCH-32 prof is director AIIMS,Raipur

Chandigarh:The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has appointed Dr Nitin M Nagarkar,Professor of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery,Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,as Director of AIIMS,Raipur. Nagarkar is likely to join on July 23.

People prohibited from bathing in Ghaggar river

Panchkula: Deputy Commissioner of Police Parul Kush Jain issued orders imposing Section 144 near Ghaggar river prohibiting any person from bathing in the river. The order was issued to prevent drowning accidents,as the level of water in Ghaggar goes up during the monsoons. The ban will be in effect for two months.

Green waste pick up vehicle flagged off

Chandigarh:A green waste-cum-garbage pick up vehicle purchased by the Citizen’s Association,Sector 21 was flagged off by Municipal Commissioner V P Singh Sunday. Baljinder Singh Bittu,the president of the association said that the initiative was taken by the association in order to ensure that the sector remains clean.

Three die after hutment collapses due to rain

Parwanoo:Heavy rainfall led to the loss of three lives in Baddi area. A hutment collapsed in village Shilorakallan near Kasauli. A woman and her two sons,all labourers,were sleeping in their hutment when it collapsed. Factories in the area registered a total loss of around two crore.
