Income Tax sleuths on Wednesday conducted surveys on as many as five companies dealing in pipes and paper: Nidhi Pipes Limited,Nachiketa Papers Limited,Rainbow Laminates,Haripur Craft Company and Haripur Paper Company.

The survey,which was carried under the guidance of Commissioner,Income Tax (I) A K Kaushal,is likely to conclude on Thursday. While Nidhi Pipes and Nachiketa Papers have their manufacturing units in Dera Bassi,the other three companies have their units in Baddi. The IT sleuths have taken into possession documents and other records to check for income tax evasion,if any.

City students visit Embassy of Nepal
The students of three schools of Mohali visited the Embassy of Nepal in Delhi to interact with the Nepalese Ambassador. This visit was organized under “Nepalese Ambassador Interaction Programme” of Athena Ventures. Reema Gahrana,Director,Athena Ventures,thanked the Nepalese Embassy to encourage Indian students for the interaction with their Ambassador. The Ambassador inspired the students to be future diplomats,she said. Four teachers accompanied 42 students (27 girls) who were chosen by their respective schools- Doon International School,Golden Bells Public School and Green Field Public High School for this prestigious visit.

Chandigarh-Columbo Youth Forum launched
As part of the ongoing 5 th International Youth Peace Fest being organized in the city from September 26 to October 2,a “Chandigarh-Columbo Youth Forum” was launched. The aim of the forum was to promote friendship and peace between the students of Sri Lanka and India. In an interactive session that was chaired by Sumitra,Lakshika de Silva and Dilshant,delegates from the Sri Lankan contingent,and Parveen from the Indian contingent highlighted the need to promote tourism across the countries. The delegates deliberated upon how the launch of such a forum “will go a long way in fostering the tower of friendship between the two countries as the people across the borders would get an opportunity to learn more about each others customs and culture.”

Laptop stolen
Thieves decamped with cash and a laptop after breaking open windowpanes of a car in Hallo Majra,Chandigarh on Wednesday. According to the police,Lalit Kumar,a Hallo Majra resident,had parked his car outside his house. He came back after 10 minutes and found the rear windowpane of his car broken. Cash of Rs 1.60 lakhs,a laptop other documents were stolen from the car. The victim is into business of sale and purchase of cars. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons.

Chandigarh school tourism quiz
The Chandigarh school tourism quiz organized by the Department of Tourism,Chandigarh Administration,and conducted by the University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (UIHMT) in Panjab University concluded at the Government Museum today.

In this event,28 teams from various schools of Chandigarh participated. Divided into two tiers,the first event was preliminary round,in which teams were given written test of 30 questions focused on various facets of Chandigarh and general awareness. The final round of the tourism quiz started at 12 noon and top five teams of preliminary rounds participated in it. The finals were divided into nine rounds including audio and visual rounds. The theme and scope of these rounds was Chandigarh,cultural and heritage tourism,tourism and wildlife,Indian cities,Indian monuments,and tourist places of India besides abbreviations. Two rounds were of visuals and the final one was an audio round.

International Portage Conference begins at PU from Sept 30
The International Portage Association in collaboration with the Department of Education,Panjab University,is organising a series of training workshops on the 13th International Portage Conference on the Panjab University campus from September 30 to October 3. Co-sponsored by the National Trust and Rehabilitation Council of India of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,the first session of the workshop will be inaugurated at 10 am on September 30.

Ram Niwas,UT Home Secretary will be the chief guest,while Prof Ajaib Singh,Director of the Department of Life Long Learning and Extension of the University will preside over it. Pradip Mehra,UT Advisor to the Administrator will be the chief guest on the second day session and Prof. S.C. Vaidya,Dean University Instructions would preside. Major General (Retired ) Ian Cardozo,Chairman,Rehabilitation Council of India will be the chief guest of the October 2 session while Prof. Sudha Puri will preside over the session devoted to pay homage to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.
