Over 6,000 forms were sold in the four convent schools in last three days including St John’s School (Sector 26),St Anne’s School (Sector 32),Sacred Heart School (Sector 26) and Carmel Convent School (Sector 9) on the first day of the admission process for entry level classes.

6,000 forms sold in four convent schools

Chandigarh: Over 6,000 forms were sold in the four convent schools in last three days including St John’s School (Sector 26),St Anne’s School (Sector 32),Sacred Heart School (Sector 26) and Carmel Convent School (Sector 9) on the first day of the admission process for entry level classes. The four schools have a total of 680 seats in Kindergarten classes. The forms are to be submitted in the respective schools on January 19 between 2.45 pm and 4.30 pm. The draw of lots for St Anne’s will be conducted on January 10,while the others will hold it on January 9.

Complaint alleges degrees given before approval

Chandigarh: RTI activist Rajinder K Singla today filed a complaint against the selection of names for honorary degrees during the convocation. Claiming that the University has brushed Section 23 of the Panjab University Act,1947 under the carpet by announcing honorary doctorates to awardees even prior to its approval by the University Senate and subsequent confirmation by Chancellor.

PGI adds 10 more dialysis units

Chandigarh: PGI expanded its artificial kidney unit by adding 10 more dialysis machines to the existing ten machines.

One gets life term for murder

Chandigarh: A local court today awarded life imprisonment to a Colony No. 5 resident in a ten-month-old case. The court awarded life imprisonment to Vasudev,a labourer,who had murdered his neighbour Mahesh,also a labourer. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused.

Mother,daughter get serious burn injuries

Panchkula: A two-year-old girl and her mother received serious burn injuries in a fire incident in Pinjore late on Wednesday night. Police said that girl identified as Anjali is critical as she had received 80 percent percent burn injuries. She is being treated at PGI. Her mother Meena is also admitted in the hospital. Police said that incident took place in village Madawala during the night when Meena woke up and lit a lamp.

35-yr-old woman killed in accident

Chandigarh: A 35-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a car near Mandela turn in Industrial Area on Thursday afternoon The woman,identified as Nirmala,was rushed to GMCH-32 where she died while being treated. The accused identified as Salin Dabar,a Panchkula resident,fled,leaving his vehicle behind. Dabar has been booked on charges of causing death by negligence,rash driving.

Car theft case solved

Panchkula: Panchkula police on Thursday claimed to have solved a car theft case by arresting three persons. The accused have been identified as Rakesh of Upparli Himachal Pardeh,Babu Ram of Rai Bareli,UP and Mohan Lal of Baharich,UP. The three were arrested from Panchkula.
