Local Govt Dept okays Mohali Municipal Corp
Mohali:
The Punjab Local Government Department on Friday evening cleared the setting up of a Municipal Corporation in Mohali and the formal notification is likely to issued on Monday. With the issuance of notification,the present Municipal Council will be dissolved and the elected councillors,president and vice-presidents will be dismissed with immediate effect. Confirming the development,a senior government official said that the file on the matter was sent to the Legal Remembrancer (LR),who will be issuing the formal notification. LR office sources confirmed receiving the file and issuing the formal notification on Monday. The posting of a Municipal Corporation Commissioner will also be made after the issuance of the notification,said the officer.

NRI Sabha poll on Jan 13
Mohali:
Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar on Friday announced the annual elections to the Mohali district NRI Sabha. The election will be held at the auditorium hall of Gian Jyoti Public School in Phase II here at 11 am on January 13 SDM Amit Talwar has been appointed Returning Officer. All NRIs having identity cards issued from Mohali or the Central Sabha in Jalandhar are entitled to participate in the election. It will be held for the post of president.

Shopkeeper assaulted,robbed of Rs 2 lakh
Zirakpur:
A shopkeeper was assaulted and robbed of Rs 2 lakh here,the police said on Friday evening. Vikas Kumar,a resident of Green Park Colony,Zirakpur,who runs a general store here reported to the police that four youths came to his shop and enquired about his servant. “As I told them that the servant was not there,the four started assaulting me without any provocation and took away Rs 2 lakh cash lying in my shop,” he recalled while identifying the assailants as Sarabjeet Singh,Jasbir Singh,Gurvinder Singh,all residents of Adarsh Colony and Gagan,a resident of Preet Colony in Zirakpur. The police have registered a case and initiated further investigations. However,no arrests were made as yet.

Mega-job fest held
Mohali:
A mega job fest was held at Guru Gobind Singh College of Modern Technology,Kharar. A total of 22 companies dealing in software solutions,IT,Electronics and Communications and Mechanical participated in this drive,meant for all branches of BTech,MBA and MCA and all branches of Diploma students who will pass out in 2011. A total of 90 students from Diploma and 30 students from BTech from the host college appeared in the drive. Some students from other colleges in Jalandhar and Landran also participated.
