Man held after wife’s suicide

Mohali: A woman,Seema,who attempted suicide at her Janata Colony house in Nayagaon near Chandigarh on Monday,succumbed at PGIMER late on Tuesday. Her father Jati Ram alleged in a complaint to the police that Seema’s husband,Deepak,was having an extra-marital relationship,which “forced her to consume a poisonous substance to end her life”. He said that Deepak and his mother had “driven Seema to take the extreme step”. Deepak,a Class IV employee with PGIMER,was arrested on Wednesday while his mother Raj was also booked in the case on charges of abetment to suicide under Sections 306 and 109 of the IPC,informed Nayagaon SHO Lakhwinder Singh.

IT park mooted near IIT-Ropar

Chandigarh: Punjab Infotech has proposed the setting up of a TechKnow Park near the upcoming IIT-Ropar campus. Punjab Infotech MD Rakesh Verma,said,“The TechKnow Park would be in line with the Punjab Government’s vision to promote the growth of the knowledge industry in the state by developing a cluster to enable industry-academia-government linkages.” He added that the project would serve as an innovation nucleus,with a projected strength of 400 PhDs,500 post-graduates and 2,000 under-graduates by the year 2015.

LIC opens office in Morinda

Chandigarh: Life Insurance Corporation opened its new office at City Centre,Railway Road,Morinda,under Chandigarh Division today. A ceremony was held today at the new building premises at Morinda which was formally inaugurated by Zonal Manager Vinay Kumar Sinha. To commemorate the event,a meeting of agents and Development Officers of Morinda Branch was also organized where they were honoured on basis of their performance on the sale of newly launched plan Endowment Plus and new business performance.

Rare postal stamps to be showcased

Ambala: The Department of Posts will issue a set of four stamps on “Postage Stamps: Princely States of India” as a curtain raiser to INDIPEX 2011 to be organised at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from February 12 to 18,2011. According to a press release,it was stated that a large number of participants will come from all over the world for the event. These stamps are both archaic and rare and are very highly valued by philatelists across the world.

Art of Living to hold three-day workshop

Chandigarh: The Art of Living is organising a three-day workshop of the Art of Living Part I Basic Course designed to cater to the needs of journalists. This workshop that would be organized from October 15 to 17 would be centered around Sudershan Kriya a rhythmic breathing-meditation technique which cleanses toxins and deep rooted physical,mental and emotional blocks from the body. The benefits would include reducing stress levels,increasing concentration,improving health and strengthening the immune system.

Competition to create awareness on environment held in Patiala

Patiala:The Environment Society of Government Mohindra College in Patiala today organised an inter-college competition on logo and poster writing. It was inaugurated by Principal Sudip Kaur Bhangu,who urged and motivated them to save the Earth and its environment. 56 students participated in the competition. Office bearers of the society Ambika Bery,Rashmi Prabhakar,Romi Garg and Simran Sidhu helped students create more awareness about the Planet Earth conserve the environment.
