Govt buildings in city to have display boards in three languages: Patil
The government buildings in the city will soon have display boards in English,Hindi and Punjabi. The directions for the same were given by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil during a public hearing session on Monday. The request regarding the language policy of the UT Administration had been put forth by city resident I P Atray. Following this,directions were given to put up boards in all the three languages.

Patil disposed of 35 complaints on the spot while the remaining were marked to the departments concerned. He asked senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration to strengthen the public grievances mechanisms in their respective departments to improve the service delivery system.

Hearing the problem of Kamla Kaushik,a widow of Flying Officer,who complained of being harassed by her tenants,Patil asked IGP P K Srivastava to look into the matter personally. In another case,Khem Raj requested for financial help for his child who is being treated at the PGI. Patil asked the Deputy Commissioner to help him through the Red Cross. Among the others who were present during the hearing were UT Adviser Pradip Mehra,Secretary to Governor M P Singh,Home Secretary Ram Niwas and Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar.

Orientation programme for PEC students held
On the first day of the new academic session,the PEC University of Technology organised an orientation programme for the newly inducted students. The event commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony by Director PEC University of Technology,Dr Manoj Datta,which was followed by ritualistic Saraswati Vandana by dramatics club. The enthusiastic speech by Dr. Manoj Datta captivated the audience. The Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Dr. Praveen Kalra provided information about the basic running of the college followed by addresses of Dean Academic Affairs (DAA) Dr. Sanjeev Sofat,Official Incharge Counselling,Official Incharge Time Table. The students then went for a college tour and had a department wise interaction with their respective Head of Departments (HODs). The day ended with the registration of the students.

Inter-school computer competition held
The students of tricity schools exhibited their talent at an inter-school computer competition,Techno Mind,held at Shemrock Senior Secondary School in Mohali. Over 20 schools participated in this event held in collaboration with Continental Institute of International Studies (CIIS). Carmel Convent School,Chandigarh,comprising Fatima Shakeel and Deepti Thapar secured the first place. Team from Shivalik Public School,Chandigarh,stood second while Chanerjoat and Yamini of the host school got the third place. Principal Air Commodore(retd) SK Sharma said all the participating teams presented extensive presentations that aptly depicted given topics.

Dhawan launches formula to control diabetes
Senior BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan today launched Diabex,a formula that he claims would help in controlling diabetes. The formula that has been made using nine types of grains which has to be mixed with flour. Addressing a press conference today,Dhawan said he had made the formula after experimenting and the it helped him lower his blood sugar level. He added that the formula is rich in fibre,low in carbohydrates and fat.

Dhawan further said since Diabex is low in carbohydrates,it helps in controlling the blood sugar level. He claimed that the level of sugar will rise just half that of whole wheat flour.
