Remove SGPC posters from govt land within 2 days: EC
Chandigarh: The Chief Commissioner,Gurdwara Elections has warned the candidates of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) not to paste posters and billboards on government land. The candidates have been asked to remove all the posters within two days. Pasting posters and billboards is in violation of model code of conduct. The posters are especially visible near the gurdwaras. Chief Commissioner has observed that the candidates are pasting posters on road sides,streets,government land and the property that does not belong to them or their supporters. If the candidates do not remove the posters within two days,action could be taken against the erring candidates. The elections are scheduled for September 18. Chandigarh has one SGPC seat. There are more than 12,500 voters registered for the elections.
No headway in Nayagaon murder case
Sas Nagar: The police have failed to make any arrests in the murder of a property dealer in Nayagaon. On Tuesday,Chote Lal (50) was found murdered in his house. He was a resident of Safada Colony and worked as a property dealer. He was stabbed several times with a knife by unidentified persons. Lal was a native of Amethi and had been staying in Nayagaon for over 20 years. His family was staying in Amethi while he stayed with another woman in his house at Nayagaon. His four daughters were staying with their mother. Station House Officer,Inspector Shyam Sunder said,We have not arrested anybody till now as several angles have to investigated before coming to a conclusion. We do not rule out the possibility of the murder being related to victim’s profession as he was a property dealer
Hoardings from city,highways to be removed
SAs Nagar: The Deputy Commissioner of SAS Nagar,Varun Roojam has directed officials to ensure that all hoardings are removed from SAS Nagar and all National and State Highways in the district. This is being done as per the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which had said that these hoardings were causing accidents on the roads. PWD officials have been asked to take action and said a drive would be launched to remove these hoardings at the earliest. Roojam has also asked the National Highway Authority of India to install traffic lights on the main roundabout in Zirakpur. He has also asked them to make all the traffic lights functional on the Zirakpur-Patiala road. Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has also been asked to remove all vegetable vendors from the Lakhour-Landaran and Balongi- Kharar road.
Youth injured in attack
SAs Nagar: Satnam Singh (19),a resident of Pind Mauli Baidwan,was seriously injured when a group of 7-8 persons attacked him with swords and knives. He was admitted to (PGI),Chandigarh.The attack took place on Friday,when a group of persons many of whom were known to the victim along with 2-3 unidentified persons attacked him in Sector 66. Mohali police have registered a case under Section 323,324,341,148,149 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code against Harvinder Singh,Harpreet alias Mintu,Jagjeet alias Jagga,Rahul,Raman and 2-3 unidentified persons.
