Two killed in separate mishaps
Two persons,including a woman,died in different road accidents on Monday. Geeta,wife of Sandip Kumar,was crushed to death by a speeding car at Dosarka Chowk on the Dehradun-Ambala NH. The Mullana police reached the spot and registered a case against the unidentified driver. In another incident,a biker identified as Kirti,a resident of village Babyal,was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle near the Khalsa School,Ambala Cantonment. He died on the spot.
One killed in road accident
Bhudhi Ram,42,who was pillion riding died while Dhan Bhadur,45,who was driving the scooter got seriously injured when their scooter (HR-49-2039) was hit by a truck near Sector 3 in Parwanoo on Sunday. The police have registered a case and arrested the truck driver.
Powercom engineer honoured
Jagvir Goyal,Deputy Chief Engineer Civil,PSPCL,was honoured by the District Administration,Patiala,on occasion of Independence Day 2010 at the district level function held in Yadvindra Stadium,Patiala. Manpreet Singh Badal,Finance Minister,Punjab,awarded a trophy and commendation certificate to him in recognition of the work done by him. Debts Recovery Tribunal gets presiding officer
The Ministry of Finance has appointed Harcharan Singh Advocate as the new presiding officer of the Debts Recovery Tribunal – II,Chandigarh,having jurisdiction in Punjab. The post was laying vacant for the last seven months resulting huge pendency of cases. A public interest litigation was also pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court,for the same. Harcharan Singh,is the first to be elevated from the bar of Punjab and Haryana High Court to this post. Born on September 27,1963,he did his schooling from Khalsa High School,Faridkot. He did his Bachelors in journalism from Punjabi University,Patiala.
Woman hit by former home secretarys car
A 45-year old woman Renu Balaria of Sector 7 was hit by the official vehicle of former UT Home Secretary (HS) Krishan Mohan at the dividing road of Sector 7 and Sector 19 on Sunday.
The incident took place when Renu Baloria was crossing the road and the official vehicle (HR-51AB-0054),hit her at the dividing road. The police said the woman was critically injured and she had been rushed to GMSH-16 from where she referred to PGI. The driver of Krishan Mohan was only in the car when the mishap took place. Mohan is presently posted as Home Secretary in Haryana.
The official vehicle was being driven by driver Heera Vallabh,a resident of Sector 28,and he has been arrested in this case. A case under the charges of rash and negligent driving has been registered at Sector-26 police station.
NGO donates ambulance to PGI
Lifeline,an NGO working for the unknown and unattended patients at PGIMER,Chandigarh,and GMCH-32 on Monday donated an ambulance to PGI and also carried out a tree plantation drive in the hospital. The president of the NGO,Ravinder Gupta,said,We have a fleet of eight ambulances,including two mortuary vans. But the fleet is very old. Now we are in the process of phasing out the old vehicles and introducing new ones. The ambulance was donated by Lifelines senior trustee Satish Bagrotia,CMD,Winsome Group. The NGO also take cares of the sarias in the hospital.
Telecom company launches Braille bill service
As part of its corporate responsibility initiative,the Reliance Mobile has announced the launch of Braille Bill service. The service is first-of-its kind initiative introduced by an Indian telecom operator keeping in mind the convenience of various customers. Commenting on the launch of its Braille Bill Service,Anurag Prashar,President Corporate,Customer Service,Reliance Communications said, There are currently 45 million people suffering from complete visual impairment across the globe. Of these,nearly 12 million reside in India. Our new Braille Bill service is in line with our customer service objective to help our customers. The service is free. As of now the service will be available for postpaid customers and the bill will also provide a breakup of the current charges payable by the customer. The normal detailed and itemised bills will also be available through regular channels in the form of hard copy as well as e-bills. The Braille Bill will be dispatched to the visually impaired customers through post every month without any extra charges. Existing and new Reliance Mobile customers can request for the Braille Bill by registering their request with the company through its call centre or customer touch-points.
Teej celebrated in Patiala
Teej function was organised at Ajit Nagar on Monday. More than one hundred from the city participated in the function. The main attraction of show was Gidda. Sandeep Kaur,a social activist,said women living in cities were very much missing the Peengh (swing) which had now been confined into the folk songs. It was also missing in this show,but she said that the traditional Punjabi food,folk songs and other cultural iems had filled the gap.
Rajesh Kumar is Zila Parishad chairman
After giving a miss to the meeting held last week to elect the chairman for the Zila Parishad,all the elected candidates elected Rajesh Kumar for the post during a meeting held at Mini Secretariat today. The ten candidates unanimously elected Kumar,who won from ward number one,during the meeting which was headed by Assistant Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Verma.
Champa Devi,from ward number eight,was elected as vice-president.
