State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday called for radical policy reforms to make Punjab a better place to live in.

State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday called for radical policy reforms to make Punjab a better place to live in. Amarinder was addressing a massive party rally at Mullampur.

With an obvious reference to the ongoing debate over FDI in retail,he said that the alarming drift in the economy was needed to be arrested lest Punjab went bankrupt and led to other socio-economic problems. Attacking the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal),Amarinder said that the Akali-BJP government has done nothing in the last five years except telling lies and pushing the state towards bankruptcy. He pointed out,of 225 promises the Akalis made before forming government, they fulfilled only 15.

Maintaining that Punjab needs to look forward towards industrialisation and innovative methods in agriculture,he said, the top priority has to be creation of jobs for the unemployed youth. “Unless and until we don’t take measures to curb this problem, the unemployed youth always run the risk of drifting towards crime and drug addiction”,he said, while telling the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal that jobs and not Kabbadi is the need of the hour.

Asserting that the winds of change had already started blowing in Punjab,Amarinder said, the Akalis right from Chief Minister PS Badal to YAD president Bikram Majithia will run away after being defeated. He said, they do not have the courage to face the wrath of the people whom they let down during their five year rule. “They did not leave anything – be it liquor trade, transport, cable operations or sand mining”,he said and added, the people of Punjab will hold them to account for each and every act of omission and commission.

Addressing the rally, the party in-charge for Punjab,Gulchain Singh Charak asserted that the Akali-BJP alliance was on the way out as was established by the presence of thousands of people in the Congress rallies. “Every second rally has outnumbered the previous one”,he pointed out. Speaking on the occasion,Ludhiana MP and the national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Manish Tewari lashed out at the Akalis for saying one thing in Punjab and the another thing in Delhi. He said, while this government was running on the grants provided by the Centre and every other day the Akalis are seen making rounds of PM and others cabinet ministers’ offices for grants, which they get generously,in Punjab, they allege discrimination.

Buoyed by the massive presence of people at the rally Qila Raipur MLA Jassi Khangura challenged the CM and deputy CM to try their luck from Dakha.
