Ashley Wallbridge,a Manchester-based DJ,wants to make Chandigarh dance to his tunes At eight,Ashley Wallbridge was treated to a pair of decks by his music-loving brother Aaron. By 13,thanks to the countless visits to the local music store, practice sessions with his brother, and listening to music from across the world, the Manchester-based Wallbridge was scratching, mixing and playing records like a pro. In Chandigarh for a gig at Kava in Sector 26,Wallbridge,24,is counted among the most prolific DJs in the progressive music circuit. While I am locked in my studio making music Monday through Thursday, its on the weekends that I fly halfway across the world for a gig, he says. Be it America,Europe,India or China,Wallbridge plays what he knows best a combination of progressive, trance, electronica and house. When I am playing, then its got to be this music. At home or in my studio, its classical,R&B,dub-step and every other genre that plays, says Wallbridge. Every kid dreams of becoming a DJ, says Wallbridge, looking back at his own younger days. So charged was he with music that he faked his age and entered a contest for DJs above age 15. I won it,only to be disqualified once they came to know my real age, he says. He went on to win many other competitions and was soon playing at venues in which he was not even old enough to enjoy a drink. At present, the DJ is also working on his first album, which will be a mix of instrumental and vocal progressive. His other works include My Blood,Faces and a dub, club title called Chimera which went straight to the number one spot on Beatport,a popular dance music community, and stayed there for three straight weeks. Wallbridges latest release is Jynx. My passion lies in production, creation of new soundtracks and working on new mixes, he signs off.
