The results of the five suspected swine flu cases have ruled out the presence of virus in patients.

The results of the five suspected swine flu cases have ruled out the presence of virus in patients. The samples had been taken from patients of Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32.

Two swine flu cases had been confirmed yesterday. One of the patients had been admitted to PGI,while the other is recuperating at Fortis. The swab samples of both the patients tested at PGI had confirmed swine flu.

The patient admitted at PGI was a 57-year-old resident of Sector 8 and had been admitted to PGI on August 18. She was discharged today and has been home quarantined where her treatment would continue. However, she is reportedly out of danger. Her family had already been isolated.

The other patient was 48-year-old resident of Sector 36. He had been put on a ventilator at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. While his condition had been critical, there has been an improvement today. With these cases the number of positive swine flu cases had risen to three. A few days back a PGI nurse had tested positive for swine flu and was admitted to Fortis. The patients are on a regular dose of Tamiflu.

Nodal officer for swine flu Dr Abha Rana said that the five suspected cases tested negative for swine flu. “Since the month of June around 35 suspected cases have been reported. The tests have come out negative. Adequate arrangements are in place in the city to take care of the patients suffering from swine flu. The condition of the patients is improving,” she said.

Last year 55 patients died in the region due to swine flu,out of which eight were from the tricity. The number of swine flu cases had swelled to over 150 last year during winters.
