Announcing the verdict on Tuesday, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Raj Rahul Garg also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on Mohammad Shahid,Rakesh and Vijay, all residents of Manimajra. The trio was convicted by the court on Monday.

The body of the victim,Mahesh Gupta of Charan Singh Colony, was found on November 30,2004,in a pit near the railway track in Shanti Nagar. The accused had stabbed him to death.

According to the prosecution,Vijay had asked Mahesh to come with him on the night of November 29,2004,on the pretext of getting him a job the next day. He had also told Mahesh’s family that he would need to pay some money to get the job. Mahesh had Rs 1,200 on him when he left home with Vijay and Rakesh, said the police. Shahid later joined them and the three killed him and took all the money he had,the police said, adding that Vijay also nursed a grudge against Mahesh because he had once hit him in the public.

Mahesh is survived by his ageing father and visually impaired mother.
