2 snatchers held,12 cases solved

The police has recovered more than half a dozen mobile phones,a two wheeler and a motor-cycle so far.

Chandigarh Police had arrested a duo for their alleged involvement in nearly 20 cases of snatching and motor-vehicle thefts. The police has recovered more than half a dozen mobile phones,a two wheeler and a motor-cycle so far. The two have been identified as Dharambir Singh (26),a resident of Kansal Village who was arrested on March 9 and Vikas (23),a resident of Kaimbwala village who was arrested on March 12.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Central Ashish Kapoor said,“After the arrest made by a police team of Police Station Sector 17,it has come to light that the accused have been involved in many cases of snatching and thefts in Chandigarh,Panchkula and Mohali”.

The local court has remanded the accused in police custody till March 14. The police is expecting to make more recovery from the accused,added the DSP.

Dharmbir Singh was arrested at a naka near turn of Sector 22 A and B on March 9 at 9.30 pm by ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) Ranbir Singh. A yellow motorcycle bearing a fake registration number was recovered from the accused. “The motorcycle which was recovered from the accused was reported stolen from Sukhna Lake’s parking on March 7,” said the DSP.

Apart from the motorcycle recovered from the accused,the two had also stolen a motorcycle from outside DAV College,Sector 10,Chandigarh and another from parking of Guru Gobind Singh College,Sector 26.

Dharambir had confessed during questioning that he and co-accused Vikas had snatched a purse from Sector 16,Chandigarh on March 1 from a woman. Also,the two tried to snatch a purse from another woman near Aroma Hotel,Sector 22 on March 8.

The police has solved seven cases of snatching and motor vehicle theft from Chandigarh,two from Mohali and three from Panchkula.

The accused Dharambir has studied till Class XII and worked as a two-wheeler mechanic in Kansal. Accused Vikas has studied till Class X and is unemployed. The previous crime history of the two accused revealed that Vikas has been involved in nine cases of theft out which five thefts were committed along with Dharambir.
