With the onset of the monsoon season, malaria cases have seen a steady rise. Though the UT Health department has declared June as the anti-malaria month, around 10 cases have been reported till date. The last years count of malaria cases in the city was 349,while there were 91 dengue cases.
The Health department, meanwhile, claims that they have initiated cleanliness drives in slums and the congested areas of the city and residents would be served notices if they make atmosphere conducive for the breeding of mosquitoes. We will start serving notices from July. They would serve as deterrents, said a senior official.
According to doctors, while the pre-monsoon season sees a large number of malaria cases, the post-monsoon months September and October bring a large number of dengue cases.
The symptoms of both dengue and malaria are similar, which include high fever accompanied with shivering sensation in the body.
