At least five persons, including four minors, were killed after a portion of an under-construction culvert collapsed at Uparasaja village under Kalyansinghpur tehsil in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Monday. The deceased were bathing in rain water accumulated under the construction site when the structure collapsed led to their death, said police. Incessant rainfall in the region since three days led to the mishap. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed concern over the mishap and announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased. Patnaik also directed strict action against those responsible for the mishap.
