(Representational/File Image) A woman, originally from Tamil Nadu, and her two children were charred to death after their car collided head-on with a truck and caught fire in Bengaluru early on Tuesday, the police said.
The police have identified the deceased as M Sindhura, 31, and her daughters M Kushavi, 2, and M Pranavi, 6. The car was driven by Sindhura’s husband Mahendran B, a software engineer, who also suffered severe burn injuries, officials said.
The driver might have dozed off before the fatal crash on NICE Road in Talaghattapura or the vehicle might have experienced some technical problem, said an officer.
According to the police, the car jumped the median around 2.50 am, rammed a truck coming from the other side, toppled over near Somapura Junction before bursting into flames.
The family, hailing from Salem, had been residing in Vijinapura of Ramamurthynagar, Bengaluru.
“A fire quickly broke out, making it impossible to rescue Sindhura and Kushavi from the back seat. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver and others managed to pull out Mahendran and Pranavi from the front door before the fire spread,” said the officer.
Mahendran and Pranavi were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where Pranavi died at 11 am on Tuesday.
However, the car with Sindhura and Kushavi inside was almost completely gutted by the time a fire tender reached the spot, the police said.
Police said that the family had visited a furniture showroom on Tumakuru Road and then a nearby hotel for a late-night dinner before the accident.
