Former PM H D Deve Gowda and JD(S) national president Thursday warned his grandson and Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing several sexual abuse allegations, that he would be isolated from the family if he did not return and surrender before the police.
“At this juncture, I can do only one thing. I can issue a stern warning to Prajwal and ask him to return from wherever he is and surrender before the police. He should subject himself to the legal process. This is not an appeal that I am making, it is a warning that I am issuing. If he does not heed to this warning, he will have to face my anger and the anger of all his family members. The law will take care of the accusations against him, but not listening to the family will ensure his total isolation,” said Deve Gowda in his letter titled ‘My Warning to Prajwal Revanna’.
Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah shot off a second letter in a month to PM Narendra Modi, requesting the cancellation of the diplomatic passport issued to Prajwal.
The letter, dated May 22, comes three weeks after the first on May 1, where he had sought the Central government’s help in securing custody of Prajwal who had reportedly left the country before an FIR was lodged against him in connection with the sexual abuse allegations.
“It is disheartening that my previous letter raising similar concerns on the issue has not, to the best of my knowledge, been acted upon despite the gravity of the situation,” Siddaramaiah said. The letter was shared by the CMO Thursday, amid reports that the Ministry of External Affairs had received a letter from Karnataka government to cancel Prajwal’s diplomatic passport.
Deve Gowda’s letter comes two days after JD(S) state president and former Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy made a public appeal for the MP to come back to India.
In his letter, Deve Gowda mentions that people had used “the harshest words” against him and his family members. “I do not wish to stop them… I will not try and argue with them that they should have waited until all the facts were found out,” he said.
“I also cannot convince people that I was unaware of Prajwal’s activities. I cannot convince them that I have no desire to shield him,” it stated.
