(Express Photo)A fight that began over sitting near the toilet due to lack of seating space turned tragic when an unidentified man was thrown off a moving train in Bengaluru, the Government Railway Police said on Thursday.
The police arrested Devappa, 45, a gardener; and Peerappa, 31, a painter—both from Kalaburagi—on murder charges in connection with the incident, which took place on Tuesday aboard the Yesvantpur-Bidar Express. They were travelling in a general coach and between 7.25 pm and 7.35 pm, the victim approached the suspects, who were seated near the toilet, to sit beside them. However, the duo refused and started an argument.
The investigation revealed that Devappa and Peerappa assaulted the victim, believed to be in his 40s, before shoving him off the moving train between the Kodigehalli and Yesvantpur stations, leading to his death, officials said.
An eyewitness, Kumar M G, who is also the complainant in the case, immediately alerted the railway control room about the incident. The next morning, around 11 am, railway officials recovered the body, which Kumar identified later as the victim.
“Based on local intelligence, the suspects were arrested on Thursday near the Doddaballapur railway station,” a police officer said.
Efforts are being made to identify the victim and inform his family, the officer added.
In another incident, the HSR Layout police arrested two men who allegedly killed a puncture shop owner after he questioned their suspicious behaviour.
Around 11 pm on Wednesday at Mangammanapalya, a heated argument ensued near Noorulla’s shop after he confronted Prakash and Kumaresha, both from Ramanagara, and the duo attacked him with an iron rod, the police said. A friend of Noorulla’s who tried to intervene was also injured.
Noorulla was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Prakash and Kumaresha have been booked for murder and assault and the investigation is underway.
