Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who briefed the media following a special Cabinet meeting held at Kalaburagi to mark the Kalyana Karnataka Day – also known as Hyderabad Liberation Day – said that water will be lifted from the Narayanapura dam for the project.
During the meeting, the Cabinet also passed a resolution seeking matching grants to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore from the Central government for the development of the Kalyana Karnataka region. The Karnataka government had announced Rs 5,000 crore for the development of the region in the 2024-25 budget. Though Article 371(J) granted special status to the region, “the Central government has not released a single rupee for its development,” Siddaramaiah said.
The Cabinet cleared 46 subjects from various departments estimated to cost Rs 11,770 crore, meant exclusively for the seven districts of the Kalyana Karnataka region. Ten other projects totalling Rs 922 crore for other parts of the state were also cleared during the meeting.
On the vacant posts in the region, Siddaramaiah said a total of 17,439 posts will be filled in phases. All the budget announcements made for the region were also cleared.
This was the first Cabinet meeting held at Kalaburagi since 2014.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that a total of 108 persons who had worked to repair the Tungabhadra Dam after one of its gates washed away last month will be felicitated. The event is scheduled to be held on September 22, he said.
The Cabinet also cleared a proposal to develop all places of tourist attraction in the region, starting from Anubhava Mantapa in Bidar district till Anjanadri Hill in Koppal district.
