Karnataka Bangalore News Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday night announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the victims of the building collapse in Bengaluru. In a tweet, he said, “Anguished by the loss of lives due to the collapse of a building in Bengaluru. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.” A six-storeyed under-construction building in Bengaluru collapsed where nearly 20 workers were working, killing eight.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old child died after falling into a lift pit of an under-construction building in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Following the rainfall, the pit had filled with water leading to the drowning of the child. The deceased has been identified as Suhas Gowda. Kadugodi police have registered a case and are further probing.

Bangalore Rain Live Updates: 7-year-old drowns in lift pit filled with rainwater in Bengaluru

A seven-year-old child died after falling into a lift pit of an under-construction building in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Following the rainfall, the pit had filled with water leading to the drowning of the kid.

The deceased has been identified as Suhas Gowda. The incident took place on Wednesday around 9am when a five feet pit was dug to install the lift. A police officer said, "the building belongs to Kannamangala milk dairy association which is part of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF)."

Suhas is son of Srikanya, a native of Mulabagilu in Kolar district. Srikanya, who has separated from her husband, worked as a labourer. Suhas on Wednesday was playing with his friend when he accidentally fell into the pit. Other friends who noticed it immediately rushed to inform Srikanya but by the time, they returned to the place, Suhas had died.

Kadugodi police have registered a case and are further probing.

Bengaluru building collapse survivor: We don’t have money to transport friends’ bodies to Bihar

“We don’t even have money to take back the bodies to our hometown. We may have to cremate them without their family members’ presence,” lamented Mohamed Mahfooz, a labourer whose friends died when a building collapsed near Hennur in Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon.

Mahfooz was one of 21 workers at the six-storey building. He and his group had started working in August to install tiles in 13 flats of the building, which was constructed on a 60×40 ft plot. By that time, the construction was complete, and none had any knowledge of the building plan approval or substandard construction.

Around 4 pm, the building collapsed, and rescue operations continued even after 24 hours. Eight people died, six were injured and seven were rescued.

Govt sets up panel to monitor flooding crisis due to heavy downpour

The government on Wednesday set up a committee led by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to address the flooding crisis in Bengaluru due to heavy downpours.

The committee, which includes key figures from the IT, BT, and Startup Vision Groups --- will work closely with industries, corporate bodies, industry associations, business parks, and citizen groups to assess and implement solutions.

The focus will be on immediate, short-term, and long-term measures to strengthen the city’s infrastructure and mitigate future challenges posed by extreme weather events.

Bengaluru building collapse: Police arrest owner under 'culpable homicide amounting to murder' charges

A day after the multistoried under construction building collapsed in Bengaluru leading to five deaths, the city police have booked the owner and others on the charges of culpable homicide amounting to murder.

On Wednesday, Hennur police said that they had arrested Bhuvan Reddy, son of Munirajareddy under whose name the building was being constructed. The police also have named Munirajareddy, Mohan Reddy, Elumalai and others.

Hennur police have registered the case under sections 100 (Culpable homicide), 105 (culpable homicide amounting to murder), 125 (a) (causing hurt), 125 (b) (causing grievous hurt), 270 (public nuisance); 3(5) (criminal act is done by several persons) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita; sections; 326 (violation of act), 327 (violation of rules) and 328 (violation of regulations) of The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act and section 3 (failing to register of real estate project) of Real Estate Regulatory Authority Act.

Bengaluru building collapse: Police arrests owner, takes contractor into custody

Bengaluru police on Wednesday arrested the owner and took into custody the contractor of the six multi-storeyed building that collapsed on Tuesday killing five people and injuring dozens.

Police said Bhuvan Reddy, the son of Munireddy under whose name the building was constructed, was arrested.

“The contractor Muniyappa who has built four floors taken into custody,” D Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said.

The case wregistered after Mohammed Arsha, one of the labourers filed a complaint before the police.haratiya Nyaya Sanhita; sections 326, 327 and 328 of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act and section 3 of Real Estate Regulatory Authority Act.

Former minister C P Yogeshwar officially joined the state Congress at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D K Shivakumar.

Yogeshwar will file his nomination papers as Congress candidate from Channapatna constituency tomorrow morning, said Shivakumar.

Former minister C P Yogeshwar, who resigned as BJP MLC on Monday, met Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Wednesday morning.

He is likely to be fielded as a Congress candidate from Channapatna, at around 11:30 am today.

Congress is yet to announce its candidates for the November 13 bypolls to three assembly seats where the last date of filing nomination is Friday, October 25.

Bangalore Rain Live Updates: Five die after an under-construction building collapses in Anjanadri Layout

A six-storeyed under construction building in Bengaluru collapsed where nearly 20 workers were working, killing five while two or three more are believed to be trapped under the debris even as rescue operations continued at the site on Wednesday.

The building collapse took place in the Anjanadri Layout in north Bengaluru, following heavy rains.

The five people who died include: 26-year-old Harman, 35-years-old Tripal, 19-year-old Mohd Sahil, 25-year-old Sathya Raju and Shankar.

Those injured include 45-year-old Jagadevi, 28-year-old Rasheed, 25-year-old Nagaraju, 28-year-old Ramesh Kumar, 22-year-old Harman, and Ayaj. Five of them have been admitted to Bengaluru North, and one at Hosmat Hospital, respectively.

Seven more have been rescued so far, taking the total tally of those rescued to 13.

Bangalore Rain Live Updates: Tech employees asked to work from home as waterlogging causes traffic snarls

With an orange alert in place for Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has issued an advisory to all tech companies in the region and the city to allow their employees to work from home today.

A holiday was also declared for schools in the city.

This comes after a downpour on Monday and sharp spells of rain on Tuesday resulted in the breach of at least two lakes in the Yelahanka area of North Bengaluru, resulting in floods, and massive traffic snarls.
