Two Naxal leaders sent to judicial custody

The two top Naxal leaders-Vernon Gonsalves and Shridhar alias Shrinivasan-arrested by Surat police were sent to judicial custody at the Surat sub-jail on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the duo didn’t cooperate during interrogation

The two top Naxal leaders — Vernon Gonsalves and Shridhar alias Shrinivasan — arrested by Surat police were sent to judicial custody at the Surat sub-jail on Tuesday afternoon.

Police officers said the two did not cooperate during the interrogations.

Surat Range IG A K Singh said: “Vernon and Shridhar are hardliners and have not cooperated with us during interrogation. But we have enough evidence to prove their links in Naxal activities and recruitment drives in south Gujarat. We have more people on the radar and our teams are on toes to arrest them. “

The police had arrested the two from Nagpur jail through a transfer warrant filed with the Mumbai court.

The two were produced at the Kathor court and remanded with the Sruat police till August 2. They will be later sent to the Nagpur jail.

The Surat police had arrested 16 people from across the country in various Naxal cases,of which one leader,identified as Sulat Puwar was granted bail. Other arrested Naxal leaders had also applied for bail in the court of principal judge of Surat district and the hearings are on.
