State bought power at Rs 26 per unit from CLP India in last one yr

This is almost double the rate at which the same company had sold power a year ago.

The costliest power bought by the Gujarat government during the last eight months in 2013 has been at the rate of Rs 26.95 per unit from China Light and Power India (CLP India),which is one of the private power producers in Gujarat.

CLP India, that operates the gas-powered Paguthan Combined Cycle Power Plant in Bharuch district, sold 717 million units to Gujarat at an average rate of Rs 11.44 per unit between September 2012-July 2013,the state energy minister told the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in a written reply to Congress MLA Baldevji Thakore.

This is almost double the rate at which the same company had sold power a year ago. For instance, between September 2011-July 2012,CLP India sold 2,567 million units of power to the state at a rate of Rs 5.84 per unit, the reply stated.

The cost of power from CLP that was sold to the state increased almost five-fold during certain months of the year 2013. For instance, the company sold 17 million units of power at the rate of Rs 26.95 per unit during the month of February, while the next month it sold an additional 18 million units at Rs 26.44,the figures tabled in the Gujarat Assembly revealed.

The average power procurement price of CLP (Rs 11.44 per unit) was the highest when compared to the power sourced from all the private power producers like Essar Power,Adani Power,Tata Power and others.

During the year between September 2012-July 2013,Gujarat sourced 31,554 million units from private power producers. The second most costliest power bought by Gujarat has been from the solar power producers who sold 1,256 million units at a cost of Rs 14 per unit during the year. Even the cost of solar power has slightly gone up from the Rs 13.94 paid by Gujarat during the same period a year ago.
