The victim  said “assuming the call to be genuine”, she shared the bank account details of her husband and received a message that a sum of Rs 18,000 had been debited from the account.

“I did not suspect the call to be fraud as they read out my Aadhaar number and other details that I had submitted at the Anganwadi. I also did not call my Anganwadi coordinator as I trusted that the call did sound like (from) an officer of the higher department. We reported the case at Karjan police station and they have asked us to lodge a cyber complaint on the helpline number to proceed with the action,” the victim said.
