The Lakhpati Didi Sammellan will be held in Vansi-Borsi in Navsari. During the event, he will disburse over Rs 450 crore financial assistance to more than 2.5 lakh women from over 25,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the state, the government statement said.

According to a government release nearly 1.5 lakh women in Gujarat have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ under this scheme launched in 2023 on the Independence Day.

Under the initiative, women members of SHGs who earn Rs 10,000 or more per month and have an annual income of at least Rs 1 lakh through various sources, such as agriculture, animal husbandry, and small industries, are recognised as ‘Lakhpati Didis’.

Significantly, the PM’s arrival in Surat this time will coincide with the ongoing Board exams in the state even as the Surat District Education officer has appealed to the students taking the exams in the Limbayat and Athwa Lines area to reach their centres two hours in advance on both days.

Surat DEO Bhagirath Sinh Parmar told The Indian Express: “The Board exams for Class 10 are conducted in the morning and for Class 12 commerce, arts and science streams, exams are held in the afternoon. The parents have been told to drop the students at their respective centres two hours early after which the school authorities will take care of the children. The centres for the Board exams have been set up in over 20 schools. Our teams will also be deployed at all these schools to help the students. The decision has been taken for the betterment of the students.”

Parmar added, “Several parents drop their children in cars, so we have requested them to instead use mopeds for travelling on March 7 and 8, so that they can easily get out of traffic and reach the examination centre on time. If a student reaches the examination centre late, they will not be able to perform well during the exams and will remain under tension.”

In Surat, over 1.52 lakh students are appearing for the Classes 10 and 12 Board exams.
