C R Paatil State BJP president C R Paatil on Thursday said that by keeping his word, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has restored people’s trust in political leaders and workers, which otherwise had withered due to Congress’ “mentality of abhi bola, abhi fok”.
“Heads of many countries, which are known as great nations, superpowers, are saying publicly that Modi does what he talks about. What Modi speaks is inscribed in stone… Modi has inspired such confidence. Trustworthiness of political leaders and workers was eroding due to Congress because it had leaders and workers who had the mentality of abhi bola, abhi fok (not doing what one says) and not keeping their words. Modi has restored the trust, as he does what he says. His guarantee is the guarantee that work will be completed,” Paatil said.
He was addressing Satkar Samarambh, a public reception held for former Congress leader Ambarish Der, who defected to the BJP on Tuesday.
At the event, leader of Opposition in Amreli district panchayat, Prabhat Kothiwal, and Congress members of the panchayat, Ganda Lakhnotra and Piyush Borisagar, joined the BJP. Along with them, senior Congress leader Pravin Baraiya, five former presidents of Rajula municipality, two former presidents of Rajula taluka panchayats, president of Jafrabad Congress, leader of Opposition and two members of Jafrabad taluka panchayat – all from Congress – also crossed over to the BJP.
Paatil said that senior leaders of other parties are joining BJP because their parties have become rudderless. “Of late, in every district and especially in Gujarat, those who had been working for their parties for years and are known as leaders, want to join BJP unconditionally. It is because those who had been working for their party for 40 years feel that their party is now heading into the wrong direction, that their party has become leaderless and… with the ambitions and aspirations with which they had joined the party to serve the people… are feeling disappointed and they don’t see a future there. They see no other option but to join the BJP.”
Paatil said that Modi has directed that those who want to serve the people should be welcomed into BJP. “The PM has said that those who want to work for the people, those who feel for the people and want to do something for them should be given an entry to the BJP if they want to follow the ideology of BJP and want to serve people from the platform of BJP. This is the reason we have taken this decision and a lot of big leaders have joined the BJP,” he added.
The remarks came a day after senior leader Arjun Modhwadi quit Congress and joined the BJP along with Der and another Congress leader, Mulu Kandoriya.
Addressing the gathering, Der, who was the Congress working president and Rajkot MLA from 2017 to 2022, said that he defected to the BJP after being attracted by the party’s ideology of Sarvadharama Sambhav (religious harmony). “Because of the way the BJP has been working, especially the manner in which it has been talking about Sarvadharma Sambhav and respecting all people, we have joined the BJP,” he said.
