Surat crime Branch has in only five hours arrested a man accused of kidnapping and raping a six-year-old girl in Katargam area in Surat.
It was a joint effort by 150 police personnel, who had with the help of CCTV footge and human intelligence, caught the accused in just 200 metres area of the crime spot.
The accused is married and his wife stays in Uttar Pradesh. As per police, the incident took place in Katargam area wherein a woman, a scrap cart puller was sleeping with her six-year-old daughter on her handcart parked near an SMC electric vehicle charging station in Katargam area.
As per the complaint filed by the minor victim’s mother at Katargam police station, the victim and the complainant were sleeping on handcart.
The incident came into light on Saturday morning, when she spotted blood in the lower part of her daughter’s body. Th minor was found crying, she said. She immediately took her to SMIMER hospital for treatment. The hospital authorities infomred the Katargam police after learning about the incident.
Katargam police officials reached the spot and gathered details of the incident.
The victim has been admitted to the hospital where doctors also carried out a surgery upon her. Police said that at present, she is in the ICU.
Katargam police said that the accused had kidnapped her while she was in sleep and took her to Katargam sports complex where he raped the girl and later dropped her at the same place where her mother was sleeping.
Katargam police also registered an offence under different sections of the BNS Act, for kidnapping and rape.
Surat City Crime Branch was informed about the kidnapping around 11.30 pm, following which teams reached the spot and worked out on each and every details of the incident.
Finally at 5 pm, the Crime Branch arrested the accused from within 200 metres from the spot from where the girl was kidnapped. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay Verma (25), a resident of Balram district in Uttar Pradesh and presently lives in a rented house in Katargam area.
Surat Crime Branch Police Inspector K I Modi said, “We got the information around 11.30 am … and teams started the probe. Teams comprising 150 policemen — including six police inspectors and 12 police sub-inspectors — had been formed and officers were given separate tasks.”
“Our teams had checked over 200 CCTV footage of nearby areas and tracked the movement of the accused,” he said. “With the help of human intelligence, we traced the accused. Our teams found the clothes he had put on while committing the crime,” he said.
“Subsequently, our teams nabbed him from his house in Katargam area. The accused also confessed to have committed the crime during interrogation,” he also said.
The officer further said, “The accused hails from Uttar Pradesh and had come to Surat two years ago, and was working as a colourman at a private firm. He again left for Uttar Pradesh and had returned (to Surat) only around a couple of months ago. He started doing petty jobs. The accused got married around two years ago. He has no child.”
