Key BJP decisions not possible without Modi’s consent: Sena

Reacting to developments at its ally BJP’s two-day national executive meet in Mumbai, the Shiv Sena has said that the meeting showed that major decisions in the party cannot be taken by sidelining Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

In comments which send out pointers to BJP national president Nitin Gadkari and urges the NDA to reach out to new allies with an eye on 2014,an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna said on Saturday that Modi had ensured that his likes and dislikes were respected by the party.

It said that Modi’s consent had to be obtained to pave the way for Nitin Gadkari’s second term as BJP chief and for that,Sanjay Joshi had to be made the sacrificial lamb.

The Sena also questioned the role of senior BJP leader L K Advani in the recent developments with the editorial remarking that he was so far the sole PM candidate in the party while new leaders were stepping on the stage.

“Modi’s word rules in BJP and his likes and dislikes are important for the party. The meeting has shown that BJP cannot take major decisions by sidelining him,” said the strongly worded editorial.

The editorial goes on to comment that while the party criticised the Congress-ruled government and expressed the need for a viable alternative,a series of steps need to be taken to rebuild the NDA. The Sena is a long-time ally of the BJP and a member of the NDA. Its senior leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi was the Lok Sabha speaker during NDA rule.

“To remove the Congress from central government, there are hardly any numbers with the NDA. There is need to bring back Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee,Tamil Nadu’s Jayalalithaa and Orissa’s Naveen Patnaik into the NDA which they were once a part of,” said the editorial.
