Prevention is better than cure and a doctor knows this well. And,to ensure that language does not come in the way of prevention,a Rajkot-based senior nephrologist on Sunday launched a website that provides information on kidney related ailments in Gujarati and Hindi.

Two years after he wrote a book,Tamari Kidney Bachao (Save Your Kidney) — said to be the first Gujarati book on this subject — Dr Sanjay Pandya has now come out with information on prevention, symptoms, and treatment for kidney diseases in languages other than English.

The website — http://www.kidneyingujarati.com — was launched by renowned kidney specialist Dr H L Trivedi from Ahmedabad Kidney Hospital.

On the idea behind launching the website,Dr Pandya said: “A small kidney problem of an NRI settled in Congo was detected after it became serious. When I asked her why she didn’t take care in the beginning, she said that in Congo, doctors couldn’t speak English or Gujarati and they didn’t realise the seriousness of the problem.”

He added that after interacting with several other such patients,he realised the importance and need for awareness materials in local languages.
