Members of the Chemist Association of Ahmedabad got into a scuffle at their meeting on Sunday following suggestions by some to offer discounts to senior citizens and children. The meeting was held at the Kanak Party Plot. The Ghatlodia police said cross-complaints have been filed by the members of the group led by Upendra Panchouli and another group led by Jagdish Tiwari.

Patient commits suicide
A patient of spinal disorder,who attempted suicide on Tuesday,died late on Saturday.
Rubina Pathan (23),a resident of Garibnagar of Rakhiyal,was suffering from an acute spinal problem and was taking a treatment from a local doctor.

Gujarat fifth on SEZ list in India
Gujarat ranks fifth in the country in terms of Special Economic Zones (SEZ),after Andhra Pradesh,Tamil Nadu,Maharashtra and Karnataka,according to a report tabled in Parliament. Gujarat has 10 operational SEZs,the report said. In Andhra Pradesh,21 SEZs are operational,while in Tamil Nadu,19 are active. Number of such SEZs in Maharashtra and Karnataka are 15 each. According to the report,formal approval has been accorded to 571 proposals of which 348 have been notified,while 105 SEZs have become operational.

Rajkot man booked on sodomy charges
RAJKOT:The Rajkot police on Sunday booked a 35-year-old resident of Raiyadhar on sodomy charges. Raju Bharwad had allegedly sodomised an 11-year-old boy on the night of February 25.
The police said the victim’s father lodged a complaint today,as the brother of the accused had threatened them.
Raju is on the run,but the Gandhigram police detained his brother Meram. The victim has been sent for medical examination and the report is awaited.
A Gandhigram police officer said: “Raju allegedly sodomised a boy from his neighbourhood when he had gone to attend a cultural function. Later,his two brothers,Meram and Kalu,threatened the victim’s family to remain quite or face consequences.”
The officer added that Raju’s brothers were booked for helping him in the crime and giving “life threats”.
According to the complaint,,Raju took the boy to a deserted place during the function on the pretext of giving chocolates and forced himself on him.
