After playing host to a short films festival last year – the first of its kind in the city – Ahmedabad is set to witness an international film festival – the Ahmedabad International Film Festival 2009 (AIFF) that will be held from June 26 to June 28. The three-day festival promises to showcase the best of world cinema, apart from focussing on local talent. To be organised by the FulMarxx Integrated Filmed Entertainment Company, which attempted to provide a potential platform for filmmakers dealing in short films with the FulMarxx Short Fest 2008,the AIFF too, endeavours to do the same for local and national talent.
The festival is inviting entries for its Competition Section for upcoming filmmakers to showcase their work. The deadline for this is May 20 and entries are invited for Independent Feature Films,Fictional/ Live Action Short Films and Documentary Films. The AIFF,in its novel attempt, has collaborated with Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) and Tampere Film Festival,Finland; and would screen more than 100 films from across the world. It also has a category ‘Cinema of Gujarat’ focusing on the revival of the Gujarati film industry and another ‘We Care HIV+’ to help raise awareness on the deadly virus. This apart,a special heritage walk has been designed for guests, jury members and film folks. Last but not the least, the fest would also see the launch of a coffee table book on Ahmedabad.
