The Sessions Court on Saturday acquitted former BJP Gondal legislator Jayrajsinh Jadeja and five others of the murder charges of BJP district president Vinu Singala on the basis of benefit of doubt. Four others accused in the case have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Sessions Court Judge A C Joshi slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 each on the four convicted persons,Shalvin Pathan,Kailash More,Viramdevsinh Jadeja and Gurunamsinh alias Guru. Jadeja will,however,continue to remain in Gondal jail as he is also an accused in another murder case. The amount will have to be deposited in the court out of which Rs 1 lakh will be given to complainant Gobar Patel,the father of the deceased. As many as 82 witnesses were examined in the case. Of these,49 deposed in favour of the complainant,while 33 turned hostile.
Jadeja and others were acquitted for want of evidence,the court said.
Vinu Shingala,the Rajkot district president of BJP,was murdered on March 19,2004 at his residence near Satya Sai Heart Hospital in Rajkot. The police investigation revealed Jadeja had conspired murder and had hired sharpshooters to this end,who stayed in Rajkot for a month before executing the crime.
Gobar Patel had lodged a complaint against 10 people including Jayrajsinh Jadeja who was the sitting MLA when Shingala was murdered. Shingala and Jayrajsinh had a dispute over ownership of a piece of land located near Gondal town,about 35 km from Rajkot.
Jadaeja has also been accused in the murder of one Nilesh Rayani,an associate of Singala. Rayani was allegedly shot dead in Gondal by Jadeja,his close aide Jayanti Dhol and others.
Jadeja was given a special parol to campaign for the 2007 Assembly polls wherein the BJP had given him ticket though he had been in jail since 2005. Jadeja lost to NCP candidate Chandu Waghasia by just over 500 votes.
